Abstract: (24 Views)
Peace, as a vital factor for global welfare, requires collective cooperation. Women, comprising half of the world's population, play a significant role in the peacebuilding process. This study examines the role of women in peacebuilding in South Sudan and the obstacles they face, as South Sudan, after years of conflict, encounters serious challenges in achieving sustainable peace, and the barriers to women's participation in this process are often overlooked. The questions this article intends to explore are: What role do women play in the peacebuilding process, and what obstacles do they face? The hypothesis examined in response to these questions, using a descriptive-explanatory method and referring to the theory of liberal and pacifist feminism, is that the prevalent cultural norms in this country are a major obstacle to the effective role of women in the peacebuilding process. In fact, despite various challenges, women in South Sudan play an important role in establishing peace, but these norms act as a major barrier to their participation in peacebuilding.
